YOSSO

Youth Safe Steps to Opportunity (YOSSO)

Empowering young people to thrive through safety, skills, and opportunity

Youth Safe Steps to Opportunity (YOSSO) is a community-led initiative designed to support young people who are experiencing disengagement, social challenges, or involvement in anti-social behaviour. Our program provides a safe pathway for young people to reconnect with education, training, employment, and positive community life.

We work alongside families, schools, community organisations, and youth justice partners to give young people the support, guidance, and opportunities they need to move forward with confidence.

Our Purose

YOSSO helps young people aged 8–17 to build resilience, stay safe, and access life-changing opportunities. The program focuses on early intervention, culturally responsive support, and practical guidance that inspires positive choices and long-term wellbeing.

What We Offer

✔ Personal Mentoring & Case Support

One-on-one mentoring to help young people set goals, overcome barriers, and build skills for success.

✔ Employment Preparation

Practical job readiness skills, including resume support, interview preparation, career exploration, and connection to employers.

✔ Community Connection & Positive Activities

Sports, arts, volunteering, and community programs that build belonging, reduce boredom, and encourage pro-social behaviour.

✔ Family and Cultural Support

Strengthening family relationships and cultural identity through community elders, cultural leaders, and supportive networks.

✔ Education & Training Support

Re-engagement pathways for students experiencing school attendance challenges, learning barriers, or academic disengagement.
